Google provides a keyword tool that you can use for free to find appropriate long-tail phrases that are actually being searched and are relevant to your niche.

If you were to put the words “brown leather shoes” into Google’s Keyword tool then it would display a list of phrases built around that phrase (or similar to that phrase) and would also tell you how often a each phrase is searched for on a monthly basis … This information is priceless!

For example, when you do a search using the Google keyword tool for “brown leather shoes” it will return phrases like “men’s brown leather shoes”, “buy brown leather shoes” etc, and it is down to you to choose which long tail keyword phrases to use on your site.
It’s best to go for somewhere in mid range for search phrases, say 3,000 to 6,000 searches per month. Any amount of searches bigger than this and it is likely you will have too much competition. Your aim is to get on page 1 of Google’s search results which isn’t always easy, despite what a lot of marketing “gurus” might tell you! This is why it is better to opt for conservative key phrases to start with!

The Google keyword tool is a good free tool to begin your research with, but there are other better keyword finders that you can use as your become more proficient. The downside is that you do have to pay for them!

Google looks for websites that are updated constantly and contain content that has relevancy to the theme of the site. If you incorporate your chosen keyword into well-crafted articles and submit them to your blog every couple of days, then this will keep Google bots and human visitors interested and they should keep coming back!

Your keywords should be incorporated into the 1st and last paragraph of each post, with a smattering in the body of the article too (this is one of the secrets to successful small business internet marketing!).
