Problems With MLM – #4 Believing That Everyone Will Join If You Just Follow-Up!

Despite what you may have been told by your Upline, you can sponsor new reps into your Network Marketing business without hammering the phone and following up night after night! Ok, follow-up is important, but there is a way to do it properly and what’s more you can do it without losing your friends and family in the process!

Most people who join a Network Marketing company are told to make a list of friends and family members to call about the company’s products and business opportunity. Some of these people will be interested to find out more and others will not. Some will even come to see a presentation and might even request more information. This shows that they are interested in what you have to offer, but doesn’t necessarily mean that they want to join you.

It is generally at this stage that Upline sponsors would tell their new reps that “follow-up will pay! The majority of sales are closed on the 7th follow-up, so just keep following up!” Have you ever actually tried to follow-up with someone on the phone 7 times when they are unsure whether to join you? In my opinion it is a sure fire way to come across as the push salesperson and is a good strategy if you want your friends and family to stop answering their phone when you call!

The big problem with this approach is that you either come across as pushy or needy. Either way, people are not going to be inspired to join you if that is how they perceive you. People need to be given a way out without feeling like they are upsetting or offending you. People need to feel like they can say no.

Following up on the Internet is very different. If you start by using Internet marketing strategies then you can attract a much higher volume of prospects into your prospecting pipeline. What’s more, these people are already interested in what you have to offer. By setting up an opt-in mailing list you can drip feed information to your prospects without being pushy. Remember, they asked you for the information! You are giving them what they have asked for. You are now sharing your information, following-up and sorting through your prospects completely on auto-pilot!

Yes, the percentage of prospects that you convert to reps will probably be significantly lower because there will be a lot of tyre kickers and time wasters on your list. But the unlimited number of prospects coming through your prospecting funnel will result in far more conversions overall.

Traditionally, you might have to present your opportunity to 10 people and follow-up with each of them just to get 1 or 2 new reps. That would probably take up between 10 and 20 hours of your time. Online you may have to bring 50 people into your marketing funnel to get 1 new rep. The advantage is that you can potentially get 100 new leads every week or even every day for the same investment of time! It’s definitely something worth considering I’m sure you will agree!

To summarise, you can either continue hammering the phone night after night, only to be rejected by prospects for a 5th, 6th or even 7th time, or you can learn how to set your business up online, on auto-pilot. I know how I would prefer to run my business and I can do it without losing my friends and family in the process!

Believe it or not, your Aunty Sue and Uncle Bob are not ideal prospects for your Network Marketing business! This may come as a shock, but if you are still prospecting amongst your friends and family then you are still putting yourself at a massive disadvantage in the Network Marketing industry. The way to prospect without losing your friends and family is simpler than you might think …

There are 2 ways of looking at prospecting: either you speak to people who have not heard of your product or service before and try to convince them that they are interested, or you market to people who are already interested in what you have to offer and attract them to you. The traditional Network Marketing approach is an example of the former, but today I am going to focus on the latter – attraction marketing.

The idea of attracting qualified prospects to you may seem strange at first, but this is the essence of most forms of marketing. The goal is to make your message about your products or service easy to find, so that when people do their independent research it is your message that they see rather than your competitors. By making it know that you can help your prospects to get what they want, you will be able to generate a ton of leads for your business!

There are many different marketing strategies that you can use to attract qualified prospects. You may choose to use article or video marketing, free classifieds and banner ads, or even pay per click advertising, but whatever methods you do choose it is important to learn how to be even more effective than your competitors!

As an example of the power of attraction marketing, each article or video that you produce is like a piece of bait to your prospects. The more articles and videos you produce, the more pieces of bait you have on the web. Each of these may only bring you 5 leads per month, but if you produce 20, 50 or even 100 articles and videos then the number of leads you generate each month will soon stack up! Consistent effort is the key!

So, to summarise, you can either continue prospecting anyone and everyone, or you can find a mentor to show you how to put attraction marketing to work in your business. The major problem with learning to market in this way is that your current sponsor or upline coach is probably unclear how to do it and so they couldn’t possibly show you! If you choose to move away from the word-of-mouth network marketing methods then it makes sense to follow someone who is already achieving results building their business online. That is exactly what I decided to do and I have never looked back since moving away from the traditional network marketing strategies!

Problems With MLM – #2 It’s Got Nothing To Do With The Products Or Comp Plan!

There are thousands, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of distributors out there offering exactly the same as you, so the only difference you can offer is …

When I got started in my Network Marketing business I thought that I had found an amazing deal that very few people knew about. The company had great products, which I knew I could sell and I could see how I could make a decent income by encouraging others to sell the products too. It wasn’t until a few months later that I found out my company had over 100,000 reps around the world who were also selling the products! I went from thinking that I had very little competition to the realisation that I was actually competing with quite a few people!

That didn’t matter though, because my company had the best compensation plan in the industry. There were bonuses and incentives that I could start earning just as soon as I got a few key leaders into my business. I wouldn’t need to sell that many products to make good money! Once again, I was mistaken! All of the bonuses and incentives went to the top producers and I would only get a portion of those once I joined the ranks of the Heavy Hitters!

The point is this: The only thing that makes your offering different from the other 100,000+ distributors is actually something that only you can offer. Your unique selling point is YOU! Your experiences, motives for starting a business, goals and aspirations are unique to you. This is what people who choose to follow you want to know about and this is what will propel you forward in your business. If you spend all of your time pitching and telling people how fantastic your products and compensation plan are then you will look like a sales person with no personality! Would you want to follow someone like that?

You need to be able to inspire people. Be open and honest and share more of yourself with the people you speak to, so that they can see your passion and enthusiasm. Once people know that you are passionate about what you do, because you know you are working toward your dreams, they will be queuing up to ask you what you are working on! People will NEED to find out what you know and they don’t! That’s when prospecting becomes fun, rather than being a chore!

#1 Problem With MLM – Building A Network Marketing Business Isn’t Easy!

Despite what you may have been told by your sponsor, building a Network Marketing business is definitely not easy. What happens when 2 doesn’t find 2 and your efforts don’t duplicate through your team? The answer is simpler than you may think …

When I first joined the Network Marketing industry I was excited to share what I had learned about the industry. I was confident that when I spoke to my friends and family they would be keen to get on board and join me in my venture. Now I don’t know about you, but the reality was very different! My friends and family were not interested! I eventually found my 2 people, but it stopped there! 2 didn’t find 2 and my business remained at a standstill for quite some time.

I spoke to my Upline for support, who gave me the same advice: “Keep adding names to your names list, call 2 each day and follow-up will pay!” Not for me it didn’t! The advice never changed and the results never improved. The problem was that my Sponsor was not achieving the results that I wanted using this method and neither was my sponsor’s sponsor! I was taking advice from people who hadn’t achieved what I wanted to achieve.

I then took my business Online by learning about the principles of Internet Marketing. I learned how create capture pages using html coding, as well as how to generate my own leads with opt-in pages and auto-responder messages. Then I learned how to drive targeted traffic to my sites and the wheels began turning! For the first time I was making a reasonable amount of money from my business, but there was still one small flaw: Unless my Downline were willing to learn html, website optimisation and other Internet Marketing strategies, they would not be able to duplicate my efforts. The odds of my long-term success were still stacked against me.

So, the next step for me was to find a plug and play system that I could use, but one that my Downline would also be able to benefit from, without needing to understand the intricacies of how squeeze pages, follow-up auto-responders and funded proposals work. Fortunately I found what I was looking for and I also found mentors and coaches who could actually teach me how to succeed in the industry. I found people who were successfully building their businesses from home, on the Internet, without pestering friends and family and without attending weekly opportunity meetings! That was how I wanted to build my business and they were able to show me how.

I guess the point I want to make is don’t quit! Whatever you do choose to do, don’t become one of the people who quit! Your dreams are worth more than that and the only way to fail at anything is to give up. Instead, find what works for you. Decide how you want to build your business and find people who are successful at building their businesses using those methods. Don’t try to do things the other way round, because the learning curve will be infinitely steeper! It’s far more sensible to find someone who can lead you to success, rather than struggling to find your own route.
