This snake oil usually costs $100 a bottle, but all you have to pay is a shipping and handling charge of $5. The company has this offer to introduce you to their new and exciting product.

After completing the order, all you have to do is send me your bill and I’ll send you a cheque for maybe $25, which covers your effort and time. This also factors in the time that you will need to spend cancelling the automated monthly shipment of your snake oil. If you do not cancel then you will get another bottle each month and you will be billed at the full price for it.

Sounds cool doesn’t it? You only have to pay five dollars and receive a check for $25, which is an instant $20 profit for a few minutes work. The affiliate that referred you most likely receives a larger cheque than you do, so everybody is happy, right? Not everybody is really happy because somebody loses out. The one that loses is the company selling the snake oil!

You are basically exploiting companies who employ this highly dubious incentivized approach to getting their products into new customers’ hands. Is it legal? Yes. Is it ethically and morally right? These types of offers are usually free or very low-cost trial offers, designed to get a company’s products or services into the hands of new customers in the hope of gaining additional monthly recurring sales at a later date. Of course, if you really have an interest in the product or service, then that would be a different situation altogether. That is why the companies use this method, as they are targeting genuine, interested potential customers.

However you should be wary if an affiliate steps in and technically bribes you to complete the offer and then advises you to immediately cancel any further commitment to purchase the products. This is the Project Payday model and the company selling the product is getting cheated!

This might end up being a win for you and the referring affiliate, but the company loses enormously because they paid a commission for what really amounted to a fake shopper who truly had no real interest in the product or service being offered.
