As Network Marketers we are often told that it is important to brand YOURSELF as a leader and to position YOURSELF as an expert, but what does that actually mean? How can newbies in the industry position themselves as an expert without coming across as being false?
When you enrol in a Network Marketing company, you join a very competitive arena. There are in excess of 60 million people involved in the industry worldwide and there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of reps in most companies. Therefore you are trying to sell products that lots of other people are selling and you are promoting a business where millions of people have something similar to offer! I am not trying to scare you, but I wanted you to be aware of the magnitude of the task ahead of you!
The good news is that there is one factor that makes your business and your offerings completely unique. There is one thing that no one else can possibly offer and that is YOU! Your experiences, your knowledge, your personality and character are completely unique to you. Believe it or not, that is what people are more interested in, not your amazing compensation plan or award winning products! People who choose to follow you do so because they are interested in you and what you have to say and what you have to offer.
With this in mind, positioning yourself as a leader is not about knowing everything to do with Network Marketing. It is about demonstrating that you are moving forward, regardless of your starting point. You need to show people that you are investing time and effort to improve your situation and you are willing to share what you learn with anyone who will listen! That is how you position yourself as a leader. Some people will choose to follow you and others will choose not to. That is up to them and not you! You can’t force people to follow you, because they have to make a conscious choice! That is the beauty of the Internet because you can share your message with more people and give them the choice to follow you.
Some of the lead generation and prospecting systems available allow you to customise content so that your opt-in subscribers have the opportunity to interact with you. Unfortunately, most of the systems do not give you this option, which means that you are branding and edifying the creators of the system rather than yourself. In my opinion you need to find a system that enables you to customise everything from capture pages to auto-responder messages. This enables your subscribers to see YOU as the leader that you need to be striving to become!

I learned the importance of reinvesting back into my business very early on in my Network Marketing career. I realised that there were gaps in my knowledge, so I enrolled on the necessary training programmes and bought e-courses. I also subscribed to a number of services to assist me with my marketing efforts and I have spent a lot of money promoting my own business and services online, not to mention monthly autoships! I hate to be the one to break it to you but if you are not willing to invest in your business then you are setting yourself up for failure! You may need to buy training courses to learn Internet Marketing strategies, in the same way that I did and you will probably also need to pay for some form of advertising and promotion. That is the nature of any business and Network Marketing is no different!
Your initial goal should be to bring enough money into your business each month to cover all of your expenses. If you are able to break even then it won’t be long before you move into profit and that is when the fun really begins! That’s not to say you should start taking money from your business account as soon as you are into profit, because this money should be reinvested for more training, promotion, etc. This will generate even more cashflow through your business so that the cycle can continue!
Let’s assume that you are currently making a monthly profit of $300. You could take that money from your business account and have a few nice meals out or hit the bars! You will probably make the same profit next month, but you will be unlikely to make any more on top of that. Alternatively, you could invest that money into a Google Adwords campaign. You will probably still earn the $300 profit that you would have earned anyway, but you may also earn another $300 on top of that. This is just one example, but you have to get in to the habit of reinvesting back into your business to increase your cashflow and long term stability.
The major advantage of using a prospecting system is that you can generate front end income to cover your costs and to fund your marketing efforts. You don’t necessarily need to enrol people into your primary business to build your marketing budget because you can promote additional products and services through you sales funnel. I have spoken previously about how to add value to your subscribers by recommending useful products and services and these affiliate products will pay you commissions for sales you generate. And Voila, you have your marketing budget to reinvest and increase cashflow in your business! Remember that information about your business will only be received by your subscribers once you have demonstrated your value and you can do this by recommending products and services that actually benefit network marketers, increasing cashflow in the process!
